Schedule for Nursing School

If you’re curious about what your schedule looks like when you’re a second degree nursing program, I am happy to share my experience.

Now, I am incredibly blessed that I am not working currently, so I can focus totally on my school work. Not everyone is blessed to be able to do that, but the people in my program who are still working seem to be surviving.

Schedule time! My program gives us Mondays off, which ends up not being actually off because we are expected to be in lab. But it is nice because it gives us a day to schedule appointments if we need to.

For those of you who don’t know, my program is a second degree accelerated program where we take one or two classes for six week sessions with a week break in between.

So, this session I took Nursing Fundamentals and Health Assessment for a totally of 8 credit hours.

So, Monday I am usually in lab from 8:30 to 11:30, followed by studying.

Tuesday – Wednesday, class all day.

Thursday, all day lab.

Friday, lab from 8:30 until 11:30.

Soon one of these days will become our 12 hour clinical days, but not during the first session.

This is going to sound weird, but honestly, at least the first session, my nursing program has been less difficult than working full time and trying to get all my pre-reqs in. I still put hours and hours of studying in, but I don’t feel overwhelmed all the time like I did before. Maybe this will change, but so far I can say that nursing school is easier than the pre-reqs were.
