Thailand Travels

Sorry last week was a slow one. I am two weeks into my new nursing program and it has been insane. Updates are coming soon. But in the meantime, are you guys dying to hear about Thailand? Well, you should be because it was AWESOME. Seriously, all cap worthy amazing.

Now, getting to Thailand sucks. It is an incredibly long flight. For us, it was 22 hours of flight time, plus loads of time sitting around in the airport. We left at 3am Louisville, KY time and arrive in Bangkok at 3 am the next day. I think. It is hard to judge time at that point.

We arrived and got to our hotel, which was one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. Seriously, we’re too poor for all that. The goal was to get on a normal schedule, so we planned to sleep to 9 and get the day going. We did get up at 9. Then we took a nap at 10 and awoke at 4:30 pm. Whoops.

But check us out, lounging in the hotel pool.

We had a cooking class scheduled that evening, so off we went to that. It was one of the funniest things we did the whole trip, and we did lots of fun things. It was all the fun parts of cooking and learning new recipes, but none of the boring parts like dicing or dishes.

Do you see that sexy man grinding all that curry paste. Yeah you do. But, seriously, my husband is a sexy cooking beast.

The next day our tour officially started with meeting our group, a city tour, and visiting Wat Po, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, which is one of the oldest and largest temples in the city. The draw of this one is the giant Reclining Buddha which is over 150 feet long and almost 40 feet high. It was pretty awe inspiring!

The next day, we visited the King’s grand palace and Wat Phra Kaew, which is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The architecture at every place was astonishing and unlike anything I had experienced before. It was so beautiful and so, so hot. Z. was actually concerned for a while that I had heat stroke.

That afternoon, Z. and I managed to get lost in Bangkok, have a massive fight, or an “intense marriage moment” as we like to call it, and then find Golden Buddha of Wat Traimit. That is five tons of gold, ladies and gentlemen.

We had planned to go to Chinatown after this but it was far too hot. Instead, we went back and rested until we went to a Siam dinner show. This was the worst thing we did. Complete waste of money and Z. fell asleep during the whole first half.

The next day we left Bangkok and headed off to Kanchanaburi via the floating market. That post will be coming later this week!
