April Reads #2

More books!!! I was really pushing this month because of library borrowing privileges from my current job were due to expire and that seriously was sad.

Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland. I feel like this was much of the same ole, same ole’ for Pekar. But if you like his other work, you’ll probably like this.

Let’s Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. I don’t know if it was because I loved her second book so much (which I read first) or if she really has improved that much as a writer, but this book was just not nearly as enjoyable to read. It was like being with someone who is trying to hard. Again, loved her second book, but this one didn’t do it for me.

Batman: Hush Returns by A.J. Lieberman. I enjoyed it, but it doesn’t have nearly the wonderfulness of the original part of the series. There is a lot of odd or questionable character development in this one.

Jesus Feminist by Sarah Bessey. This was more stereotypical of a generic Christian woman book than I had hoped for. Nevertheless, I think that it is important that accessible texts like this are in circulation. While I had hoped for a more critical work that delves in to feminist theory, this would not be a book I would fear to recommend to someone.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Really lusciously written text that creates a vivid sense of place in your mind. While this is not a brilliant or groundbreaking text, it was wonderful and fun. I spend an afternoon in Waterfront park, enjoying picnics and an air show, and reading the whole thing. And that was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Books I didn’t finish:

Wishbone by Julie Marie Wade. I assume it is good. I simply ran out of time.
